She graduated from Mt. Holyoke in 1851 when it was a seminary. She returned the following year as a teacher of Botany. Mt. Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections is now the home of some of her papers. They have a short bio and notes on what is in the collection. Shattuck Hall at Mt. Holyoke is named for her.
